Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran Link Up For the "Peru" Remix

Zankuing onto the scene in 2019 with his critically acclaimed debut album Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps, which birthed hot tracks Jealous, Scatter and King, Fireboy DML has had one of the most exciting runs in afrobeats as of recent. With the album going number 1 in Nigerian charts for 12 whole weeks, he followed up the project with 2020’s Apollo, his energetic and stylish sound resonating with afrobeats aficionados around the globe. He freshly came back to reclaim his crown with 2021 standout single Peru, and not long ago he hit up British megastar Ed Sheeran to slide on the remix.

Hearing of Ed Sheeran, who’s sound is typically somber, mellow pop with hints of R&B and folk, hopping on an afrobeats track is definitely an eyebrow lifter, but in pure Ed fashion he delivered with ease. The two tastemakers’ complement each other stylishly to create not so much a culture clash, but instead a flavourful fusion of musical styles. Alongside Fireboy DML’s echoing earworm of “Peru, Para” that we all know and love, Ed sings “slow whine, I’m not in a rush” flaunting the afrobeats and dancehall influences peppered throughout his verse.

The accompanying music video fortifies the charm of the track, with the two fittingly linking up in a London party setting to do nothing but vibe and jive.

Peru follows Fireboy DML on his journey around the world where a certain woman has caught his eye. He sings sweetly about taking trips from Jozi to Miami to San Francisco with her still living rent-free in his mind.

"It has been a dream knowing Ed Sheeran is a fan of my sound and having him jump on a song that was inspired by me traveling the world,” says Fireboy DML on the remix.

The original track flew to #1 on the UK Afrobeats official chart and #1 on Apple’s Top 100 in Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania to name a few. The song’s good vibes and rhythm made it the shining 2021 summer song, with the remix keeping us dancing and feeling like we’re in the tropics even throughout the depressing pandemic. With Peru’s accolades only continuing to grow and tour across the globe like Fireboy DML in his lyrics, the music world is immensely excited to see what the hitmaker will bring out next.
