Released in time perfectly for the long warm summer days and blue skies that are starting to appear as we eagerly move further in June and towards July 2023 Mercury Award Winners Ezra Collective vibe with us on ‘God Gave Me Feet For Dancing’ featuring Yazmin Lacey.
Fun and free-flowing ‘God Gave Me Feet For Dancing’ is composed of deep-feeling jazz instrumentation that expresses the desire to stand up on your feet and move with a purposeful intent.
And with time of the essence, there is an urgency in the track as it’s all about being in the moment and finding joy in the simple but powerful expression of dancing.
London-based soul singer Yazmin Lacey is infectious as she sings against the live instrumentation in dialogue rather than allowing her vocals to rest against the background. Her voice is languid in moments and lightens on the catchy chorus with a playful energy
She serenades enchantingly, “don’t let it go, be ready for when tomorrow comes / when tomorrow comes take the hand’s of the one’s you love / when the hard life comes together we’ll dance as one."
This release follows the Afro-beat-inspired ‘Ajala’, Ezra’s only other 2024 return single release. The accompanying video directed by Tajana Tokyo captures the joy of dancing on a nightnight and the freedom found in movement.
"Myself, Ife, and TJ all grew up in church, Femi Koleoso shares. "And it played a massive role in how we view the purpose of dancing. Dancing is bigger than just the club space.
Dancing is a community thing, dancing is a spiritual thing, and ‘God Gave Me Feet For Dancing’ is like a window into that element of Ezra Collective for the five of us.
There’s a story in the Bible that talks about ‘David dancing before the Lord’, and that’s always been something that has inspired me. So, ‘God Gave Me Feet For Dancing’ is meant to look at dancing in a more spiritual capacity, like it’s our God-given ability to shake away the badness of life and dance instead.”
The collective has also made history by being the first jazz act ever to headline Wembley, as well as selling out four of their other shows on their full UK/EU tour.
They have also announced a third studio album ‘Dance, No One’s Watching’ scheduled for release.
The album God Gave Me Feet For Dancing is a celebration of the spirituality of the act of dancing in all of its various cultural expressions inspired by their travelling experiences.
