Guiding guests through this immersive experience was model and writer Tanatswa, who served as the evening’s guest of honor. In collaboration with Creative Director and Editor-in-Chief Derrick Odafi, Tanatswa curated a musical journey that seamlessly intertwined with the wine selections. Her eloquent storytelling and deep appreciation for both wine and jazz music elevated the event, creating an atmosphere of warmth, connection, and inspiration.
On Tanatswa's thoughts on the evening she says "The Wine & Jazz Night was a special celebration of taste, sound, and community for me and the guests, an intimate evening where every detail was intentional. This experience had been in the making for a while, and as a lover of both jazz and wine, pairing the two felt like the perfect match. With a stunning acoustic performance by Aanya Martin to close the night, we set the tone for something truly special an experience designed for those with an acquired taste. Thank you to New Wave & Hora for a beautiful collaboration."

The wine selection for "Essence and Aroma" was inspired by the deep complexity, spontaneity, and storytelling nature of jazz. Each wine was carefully chosen to mirror the progression of a jazz setlist, starting with a light and effervescent introduction, moving into a velvety and expressive middle, and finishing with a deep, brooding finale. The evening opened with this refined sparkling wine, known for its crisp minerality and delicate bubbles. Much like the bright and playful improvisations of a jazz trumpet solo, this Crémant paired with Cod Roe Mousse, Tapioca Puffs & Caviar set the tone for the night with an air of celebration and anticipation. The accompanying jazz selection featured uplifting classics from Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Nat King Cole, echoing the effervescence of the wine.
The second offering of the evening was the Calafuria Negroamaro Rosé, paired with King Crab Bottarga and crispy rice brought a sun-kissed, soulful quality to the tasting. With floral notes, red berry flavors, and balanced acidity, it mirrored the warmth and elegance of a smooth saxophone riff. The curated jazz playlist for this phase included Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Sade, and Dinah Washington, perfectly embodying the sophistication and easygoing charm of the rosé.
The tasting ended with bold, structured Greek red, The Xinomavro, known for its smoky, earthy richness paired with Braised Rooster in wine and Orzo. With firm tannins and a long finish, it carried the depth and complexity of a late-night jazz ballad. This wine was paired with an intimate and moody jazz setlist, featuring the deep saxophone solos and bluesy vocals of James Brown, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, and Sam Cooke.

The night concluded on a breathtaking note with a soulful live performance by artist Aanya Martin. Accompanied by her guitarist, Martin serenaded the guests with a set that encapsulated the essence of jazz: raw, emotive, and deeply moving. Her voice, rich with emotion, provided a fitting close to an evening that was not just about wine or music, but about the stories, emotions, and artistry that tie them together.
