Hailing from Hackney, Mychelle is a Soul/RnB artist who has been gracing our ears with her melodic sound for a number of years. Mychelle had a strong start to the year, releasing an EP in March (It’s Not You, It's Me) which did incredibly well gaining acclaim from CLASH, The Independent and the Evening Standard to name a few. She has kept up the momentum with the recent release of her 4th EP – Me & Gaz. The EP covers themes of love and relationships whilst also serving as reflection on the beginnings of her music career, which started off with busking, by mention of her guitar (Gaz) in the title. The rich acoustics across all 5 tracks coupled with Mychelle's smooth vocals provide an easy listening experience.
Mychelle sheds light on the EP saying - “Putting out an acoustic project is really special to me because I feel like its the essence and foundation of who I am as an artist. On all three of my previous EP’s I’ve added an acoustic song at the end to share that side of me, so I’m happy to put out a project completely dedicated to that”.
The delicate guitar strums in 'Safe Space' and Mychelle's mellow, soothing tone certainly evokes emotion. On this track listeners are exposed to what feels like a relationship that has come to an end as it's no longer a safe space.
'Forbidden Fruit' appears to mirror an internal dialogue, of someone being torn between wants and needs - 'you're all I want, but you're not what I need'. It can be said that this feeling is emphasised by the echo-like sound in a part of the chorus where the same phrase is being sung in more than one vocal tone.
Mychelle is a woman of many talents, proven by her co-production of ‘Deep’, the 4th song on the EP. The track offers a level of transparency, looking back on memories while speaking of a person coming to the realisation that the relationship that they are in is not good for them.
Fans will have the opportunity to hear Mychelle's musical masterpiece live at OMEARA in London on November 2nd.
