Seen as one of the most exciting breakthrough artists Fromm last year, Hackney-born vocalist, producer and DJ, Eliza Rose returns with her raw new single ‘Business As Usual (9-5 mix)’.
The underground artist, taps into the essence of rave and club culture on her latest offering, borrowing subtle electronic elements to collaborates with UK pioneer MJ Cole.
Experimenting with the thrilling sounds garage, jungle, UK funky with soulful rifts and melodies. You can find Eliza, Sensuous, seductive, and sweet, keeping it moving as rather than choosing to dwell on the ruins of her breakup she puts value in her time and power in herself.
Eliza’s tone is deeply feeling despite the cool nonchalant air around her as she refers to her ex’s transgression in a disapproving and satirical manner.
Her powerful voice rolls with emotion, possessing an old soul that is timeless. She styles one a sharp electric guitar rift that’s looped throughout and paired with a faithful bassline.
Speaking about working with MJ Cole on the track Eliza says, It was an incredible experience to work with MJ Cole. I've admired his talent in production and DJing for such a long time and it was a dream come true for me to collaborate with him on “Business As Usual”.
I was amazed by his versatility and his approach to creating more of a Neo Soul-focused track in the studio and we were both aligned in wanting to create more of a downtempo song with a UKG flip that would bring back the old-school early 90s vibes.”
The accompanying music video is directed by Jeanie Crystal, placing us in Hackney. A place where culture’s clash and live together. Styled in a element of retro and African futurism, there is also an authentic feel as we experience places such as Eagle Cars in Stoke Newington, Hackney Town Hall, The Crown Hackney and Atlantis Records in Clapton all places close to Eliza’s heart.
Also speaking about working together, MJ Cole, says working with Eliza is a musical dream packed full of colours, ideas and inspirations. We took a different approach with “Business as Usual” - the slower version was meant as a working track to create a song at a slower tempo which would gather energy when injected at a UKG tempo - similar to R&B vocals being sped up within remixes.
We loved the initial track so much we had to release it and I donned my remixing cap to make the UKG version. Eliza really shines in this track - her soul sister roots rising up in a blaze of glory!"
Eliza has announced her forthcoming 4-track EP Business As Usual, scheduled to be released via Rosebud Recordings/One House on April 24th. Similar to this single, it was exploring the intersection where Jazz and Soul meet UKG.
