Listening to Downtown Kayoto for the first time is a thrilling experience that never gets dull no matter how often you repeat his music and this fact holds true for his latest single ‘In2you’.
On ‘In2you’ the Zimbabwe-born, Hull-raised musician demonstrates his ability as an enthralling storyteller on the addictive quick-paced beat reminiscent of the UK garage era of the early 2000s. He provides infectious colour as he details his romantic tale.
The track is crafted by Frankie Scoca combining elements such as undercut piano chords, off-beat drums and sweet vocals that combine to give off a dream-like effect.
Steadily building on his reputation of experimental and genre-less sounds BBC Radio 1 Future Artist in glimpses shows his introspectiveness on his experiences on love whilst struggling against the cynical views and the disconnect everybody feels about the modern-day dating scene.
Discussing the track's lyrical inspiration, he said: “‘n2you’ is a song about affection, love, crushes and everything in relationships. I wanted to talk about nuances in past situationships that I, and many other people have experienced too. At the end of the day this shit is hard. Dating is a nightmare and when you think you’ve found the one, there’s always this thing of "I like you but..." and "I want to be with you but…" but what? Right person wrong time? Past trauma? It’s not me it’s you? So I made this song in response to the emotional unavailability - 'l love you baby but I’m through."
The artist has also received support from MOBO Help Musicians and PPL Momentum Accelerator.
