Known for its ethereal and sensorial essence, Di Petsa’s Fashion Week presentation embodied femininity and healing. For Greek fashion designer Dimitra Petsa, spring 2024 will be all about Venus. She makes reference to "The Birth of Venus" and the summer's Venus retrograde in her latest Runaway.
Venus is born at the beginning of the show with a few provocative dancers sizzling down the runway to a row of enormous flames, where a leggy beauty with Venetian blonde hair emerges. Petsa's clothes are used to expose the history of sexualization and help Venus recover through development and self-love. “Like piecing back a broken heart.”
It was encouraging to see that for such a young designer, her concepts are already taking shape and she is not just depending on her signature wet style, as worn by celebrities such as Zendaya, Gigi Hadid and Kim Kardashian.
Through the eyes of the Greek Goddess Venus, the show explores the history of love in all of its variations. The presentation examines the healing of Venus and the sexual woman archetype, covering from the unconditional affection shared by parents to "self-love and divine beauty."
Petsa boosted her market by showcasing the brand's signature inclusivity for all sizes in a line of wet-look swimmers in colours including gold, shining silver, khaki, and black that, under certain lighting conditions, appeared to be made of leather. There were subtle additions of crystals, glass beads, and golden bells throughout the collection.
The designer may have many more gimmicks up her sleeve as evidenced by the underwater moss appearance applied to frayed knit outfits created from cotton waste. She also hinted at upcoming prints with sea foam and crystals, making the catwalking ever more engaging.
One of a kind - a unique show that blends fashion and art - undoubtedly Di Petsa, served as a reminder of the importance of the London Fashion Week for fashion enthusiasts.
