Brixton raised Cristale demonstrates her ability as one of the most talented rappers in the UK at the moment as she returns with her latest offering ‘'Roadents’ via OVO Sound.
Featuring off of the Fifth and final series of Netflix drama Top Boy’s ‘Roadents’ is a clever play on words and metaphor as she likens herself and the people she grew up to roadents implying that they’re active on the street and are perceived by certain people as lesser.
However, on the track, we see the south Londoner documenting the narratives of inner-city trauma and violence with an authentic tone. It feels both cinematic and realistic as Cristale soberly weaves this world for us to momentarily live in with her unflinchingly as she confronts the harsh reality.
Constructed from an eerie low and smooth guitar loop and skittering drill hi-hats, she is direct as she flows effortlessly using intelligent wordplay, and playful one-liners. She raps “ don’t matter to them about where we from/ in the gutters is where we belong/ spend these nights in the game just to end up getting’ stained by a cat called Tom.”
Not only is the track featured in Top Boy, but Cristale will also make her TV acting debut in the show. ‘Roadents’ is a nice follow-up to Cristale electrifying Daily Duppy freestyle on GRM Daily, where she deducted it from England’s campaign in the Women’s World Cup.
