Brixton rapper Cristale releases her first single of the year, and also more importantly as an independent artist, collaborating with Toddla T to give us ‘Ready 2 Go’.
Tapping into the relentless grind of the inner city of London, the South Londoner paints a picture as she details her never-ending schedule, the difficulties that come with her commercial and mainstream success and how she has thrived rather than broken at the face of the pressure.
Disguising her hardships with wit and clever wordplay allowing her to get her point across in a casual way without diluting the essence of it. It also showcases her personality freely at the same time on the raw and stripped-back percussion-based instrumental.
Speaking on what the track means to her, Cristale says: “Ready 2 Go is one of my favourite songs that I’ve ever made, a real feel good track that does exactly what it says on the tin, makes you feel like you’re ready to go and face the world. This song is supposed to motivate you to keep going, and remind you that you’re working towards something bigger.”
Reflecting on collaborating with Toddla T, she adds: “Working with Toddla is honestly one of the most freeing experiences I’ve had in my life. The day we started working together, he taught me what co-production was and showed me different ways an artist can get involved in the instrumentation process to make the song feel as full as possible.”
The single is set to be one of several that the nominee for the Best Hip Hop Act for the MOBO Awards has worked on with Toddla T.
