Cristale Casts A Shadow On New Single 'Will You Ever?'

Cristale shares her first offering of this year in the form of the frankly honest and introspective ‘Will You Ever?’ as she tries to make sense of it all.

The South Londoner finds the time to sit for a brief moment to find the words to explain that since last year she has often felt overwhelmed by her career trajectory. From releasing her last EP What It’s Like to Be Young in 2022 to making her acting debut in Top Boy and appearing in Netflix's The Kitchen.

And that success has led to strains on personal relationships, as well as herself, addressing the issue, she croons “Will you ever let me go? To a place that you know you can’t come with me/I know that you enjoy my company but stunting your growth isn’t fun for me / while we look up at the stary night / will you wait to see the sun with me/you shouldn’t have to walk before you run with me.”

It's a departure from her distinct direct rap cadence, released via Black Butter Records, the Brixton artist favours a more subdued melodic and poetic approach that demonstrates her ability to weave a story before our very eyes.

People Make The World Go Round compose a soundscape made up of down-tempo electronic elements that are backed by soft percussion before the introduction to a sharply played guitar rift and violin strings that make a mesmerising arrangement.

She delivers her lines in a conversational tone making you feel part of the dialogue. There is frustration hidden at the lack of understanding of her drive, but also an apology from the artist for not checking in.

The song itself is an attempt to bridge the gap to reconnect with a loved one despite the feeling that she is outgrowing them.
