One of South London’s most exciting rappers BZ follows up ‘Get Paid’ with his latest summer rendering ‘Trust Issues’ a dedication to his love interest, but also a fun bop that has potential for radio play and those summer motives.
produced by Eyes Adoasi the soundscape is composed of a warm guitar rift that is looped throughout the track providing a funky feel that is kept company by percussion instruments and female R&B harmonies and adlibs that adds an emotive tinge to the beat.
Charismatic in his approach, BZ raps over the laidback track with clarity as he explores the root of his trust issues, whilst sweetly adorning his love interest, listing what he appreciates about her but can’t help but allude to his new found fame making him question if the feelings are genuine
Heavily nostalgic in some of his lines such as the hook he refers to 90s influences. “I don’t trust na na why does all this money come with big drama? / Sweet talker got me feeling like I’m Biggie call me big papa.”
The theme of nostalgic is also present in the way the accompanying is shot and set. Directed by Delenn Vaughan, the video is placed in a 1980s Black British cafe, where we witness BZ fall in love and win the affection of a woman working the counter.
Subtle nods to the culture ranging from fashion down to the probs help to recreate an authentic world that celebrates love, perseverance, and community.
