BURNA BOY : Love, Damini (Album Review)

Any album following the Grammy Award-winning Twice As Tall would be received with critical ears, however, Burna Boy once again proves his creative genius with his sixth studio album Love, Damini.


The album is 19 tracks and features ‘Last Last’, a teasing single released earlier this year. It also offers fans collaborations with J Hus, Popcaan, Ed Sheeran, Blxst, Kehlani, J Balvin, Hkalif, Victony and Lady Black Mambazo.



‘Last Last’ samples Toni Braxton’s iconic ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough’ demonstrating the conscientious creation of his sound, furthermore sets the tone for the album and Burna Boys’ new musical era. The single was shot and directed by Burna Boy himself at his home and other carefully handpicked locations. Burna offers listeners an insight into his life and individuality, reflecting the personal impacts of his sounds. As he sings plainly about broken hearts, mistakes and consolations Burna Boy is able to produce a personal soundtrack that is relatable but also musically rich, moreover sanguine.

Each track is inspired by African Giant's own experience and comes as a personal letter to his fans. The record encapsulates Burna Boy’s adaptable sound and his close proximity and input within his music. The collaborations also echo milestones for Burna Boy such as his collaboration with Ed Sheeran at Wembley Stadium to officially debut and perform their song ‘For My Hand’ together.
