There is a rawness to Dublin-based collective Bricknasty and their latest single, ‘mouthy’, that is sensitive as it is addictive to the ear caused by Fatboy’s soulful vocals, and live acoustic instruments paired with captivating electronic elements.

The band is also made up of producer Cillian McCauley, Dara Abdurahman on bass, drummer Korey Thomas and Louis Younge on sax and keys.

The psychedelic soundscape is crafted from an up-tempo acoustic guitar and kept in place by a deep bass reminiscent of something you might hear on a house record.

On ‘mouthy’ the tone and lyricism reflect the mood of the instrument perfectly as you experience the yearning and pinning for a love interest. He sings “You got me crazy, and it’s amazing, lucky you changed me, kiss me so bravely, and though I’m away, you would’ve been the one that I sang to, into the ending.”

With a personal touch, you can also hear the voice recordings from a series of performances dubbed the Bricknasty Sessions, recorded in The Sugar Club.

The sessions brought Irish acts together like Kojaque, Maverick Sabre, Shiv, and Aby Coulibaly to raise money for Fatboy’s mother, who needed live-saving surgery.

The video directed by Connor Clarke is fun and quirky that starts in the land of animation but soon takes off into real life featuring a giant frog, which has made appearances in past videos.

Following up on their EP last year INA CRUELER, they have announced that their forthcoming mixtape, ‘XONGZ አስቀያሚጡብ’, will be released on October 2nd via FAMM.

And ‘mouthy’ reflects what you’ll get from the 9-track-EP. Favouring expire mention and expression as the band navigates loss, grief and life.
