Knitwear-focused brand AGR Knit has released its technicolour Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Described by founder Alicia Robinson as “London on Heat”, the fun and vibrant collection captures the excitement and the shared longing for a post-lockdown summer in the city.
The collection consists of pieces ranging from crochet and hand-knit to printed denim, silk sets and nylon tracksuits. Across the collection, the influence of British photographer Martin Parr and ‘90s rave culture are distinct – and the SS22 look book is also seen to encapsulate Parr’s hyper-saturated aesthetic.
To truly embrace the spirit of summer, the collection’s kaleidoscopic colour palette was also inspired by American artist Mark Rothko’s paintings – while Roy Colmer’s early spray-gun paintings prompted the striped design of AGR’s jacquards. The ‘Cherish cardigan’, a piece from the SS22 collection, features a mural created at the AGR studio by British artist Joel Holbrook.
The South-London based label, which was founded in 2019 as a result of Notting Hill Carnival, is renowned for its use of bold colours to rejuvenate old notions of knitwear. In the space of two years, AGR Knit has been sported by the likes of artists such as Jorja Smith, Burna Boy, Anderson Paak, Yung T & Bugsey and Mahalia. This year, the brand was shortlisted as a semi-finalist for the LVMH prize.
A 15-piece capsule made in collaboration with Netherlands-based knitwear manufacturer, Knitwear Lab, is also included in the collection – with each garment made using high-quality Merino wool. AGR's pieces are tailor-made and created for all shapes and sizes – with fun and sun in mind.
