9 Times Drake Proved He Can Execute Any Sound

With the release of the lasted drake record 'War', featured on his manager Oliver El-Khatib's SoundCloud mixtape EL-KUUMBA VOL 1, drake has taken the internet by storm with very split reviews on his latest offering. Many seem to feel like drake is taking a sound and running with it unauthentically while others are impressed by Drake's cultural awareness and ability to cultivate almost any sound into a viral sensation. Much of the negative feedback on this record may not have much to do with the song itself but Drake's track record of taking a sound and bringing it to the mainstream in a timely manner. This article details 9 times we believe Drake showcased his ability to execute any sound he wishes.

Atlanta Trap - Yes Indeed ft Lil Baby

Dancehall/Afrobeats - One Dance ft WizKid & Kyla

UK Drill - War

Synth Pop - Hold On We're Going Home ft Majid Jordan

Reggaeton - MIA ft Bad Bunny

R&B - No Guidance ft Chris Brown

Dance/Electronic

Westcoast Hip Hop - Who Do you Love? ft YG

UK Rap - Wanna Know Ft Dave

On a lot of these records, Drake seems to take on a character and places himself in the music from cadences to references. However, many do believe that Drake's track record walks a fine line of being a great litmus test for breaking genres into the mainstream and being a lover of music to exploiting sounds and even lyrics, most notably in cases such as the controversy around Hotline Bling and Big Baby DRAM's Cha Cha, which came out earlier that same year. Also on Drake's verse on YG's 'Who Do You Love?' Drake's verse is taken from vintage west coast rapper Rappin' 4 Tray on his single Playerz Club. However, Drake's ability to be music's best chameleon and always being in touch with the latest trends/movements is also something to be commended on and is one of the key factors in him being our Number 1 Hip Hop artist of the decade.
